Founded in 1927 by Luis Castaner and Tomàs Serra, Castaner as it is today evolved from a small espadrille making workshop dating back to 1776. The company really took off in 1960, when Yves Saint Laurent commissioned the first heeled espadrille for his Paris fashion show. This turning point took espadrilles out of their rural history and marked their entrance into the fashion world, with Castaner crowned as the leading player in the field.
